Things Not to Miss in Seoul

To the west of Seoul is the Yellow Sea, while to the north is the Korean Demilitarized Zone. While the Han River divides the city into two, it also provides ample opportunities for water sports, boating and cruises. When you visit Seoul, don't miss Insadong Teahouse, which makes traditional tea served nowhere else in Korea. Here are a few stops not to be missed during your visit to Seoul:

• Take in the scenic views of Sorak National Park
• Tour the Jongmyo shrines

When to Go to Seoul

Spring and autumn are the best times to visit Korea due to the country's warm weather. Summer can be sweltering, but it can also be the best time to take kids to amusement parks, theatre, zoos and walks on the beach.

However, December and January may also be the best times to visit Seoul. One of the most celebrated holidays in Korea is the Solar New Year (January 1), and winter sports such as skiing, snowboarding, and ice skating are also popular during this season. Another major national holiday is Lunar New Year, or Seollal (in late January or February). This festival lasts three days because local people also go on a holiday journey during this period. If you want to visit Seoul during this period, book your flight tickets and hotel three months in advance.

Seoul Airports

Incheon International Airport (IATA: ICN) is South Korea's largest airport and the main airport serving the Seoul Capital Region. It is also one of the largest and busiest airports in the world. It has been rated the best airport worldwide by Airports Council International every year since 2005. It was also selected as the cleanest and best international transit airport in the world by Skytrax.

The airport has a golf course, spa, private sleeping rooms, ice rink, casino, indoor gardens and the Museum of Korean Culture. Airport officials argue that departure and arrival operations take approximately 19 minutes to 12 minutes, respectively. Compared to similar figures around the world, 60 minutes and 45 minutes respectively, this airport ranks as the fastest airport in the world in terms of the speed of customs clearance. The airport's duty-free shopping center has been ranked as the best in the world by Business Traveler for three years since 2013. Incheon International Airport also claims that they only have a 0.0001 percent rate of mishandling luggage.

Land Transportation

Bus

Airport buses, called limousine buses, are located in the arrivals area on the first floor. Standard limousine buses go to Gimpo Airport and Songjeong Station.

Intercity buses connect to other cities and towns in Korea.

Korea City Air Terminal in Gangnam is connected to other airports by limousine buses.

Railway

AREX

Incheon International Airport Railway airport express (or AREX, spelled A'REX) station is located in the Transport Center, adjacent to the main terminal building. It provides fast transportation to Gimpo Airport and Seoul. Many stations of AREX provide connections to the Incheon Metro and Incheon Metropolitan Metro.

KTX

Korea Train eXpress (KTX) departs from the same station as AREX. However, it uses a different platform. It departs from Incheon airport 20 times a day. It passes through the Gyeonbu line 12 times, the Gyeonjeon line twice, the Honam line four times, and the Jeolla line twice.

maglev

Maglev opened in February 2016. The first part, which is 6.1 km long, has six stations and takes passengers to the southwest of the island, where there is a water park. The second part, which will be 9.7 km long, extends the line towards the northwestern part of the island. The third part will add 37.4 km and make the line a circle.

Vehicle

The airport provides short-term parking for 4000 vehicles and long-term parking for 6000 vehicles. Shuttle services offer transportation between long-term car parking and passenger and cargo terminals. Car rental is located next to the long-term car park. Connection with the mainland is via the toll Yeongjong Bridge and express road. The second express road, passing over the Incheon bridge, connects the island to Incheon center.

Ferry

Ferry services connect Yeongjong-do to the mainland. However, the port is located significantly away from the airport. When arriving at the island, alternative ways should be sought to reach the airport.
