To skip the popular season (New Year's Eve and early January), visit either late September to early December or February to April. You can enjoy perfect weather with fewer people. Winter (June to August), Sydney's low season, offers cooler days but better hotel prices.
Sydney has extensive user-friendly public transport including trains, buses, light rail and ferries. You can get your free Opal smartcard online (opal.com.au) or from newsagents. Fares are calculated according to distance, but on Sundays you can visit the whole city for only $2.
January is the hottest month with an average temperature of 23 ºC. July is the coldest month with an average temperature of 13 ºC.
Time your visit to catch Sydney's amazing festivals. Hotel prices and minimum stays peak around the time of the city's famous New Year fireworks, but Vivid Sydney's outdoor illuminations (late May to early June) and Biennial art show (March to late June in even-numbered years) are also quite exciting.
