About Sydney

Sydney is a city located within the borders of the State of Australia and is one of the oldest settlements in the region. Sydney Airports

Sydney (Kingsford Smith) Airport (IATA: SYD) is an international airport located in the Mascot district, 8 km south of Sydney city centre. It is the only major airport serving the city of Sydney and the main hub for the airline Qantas, as well as a secondary hub for Virgin Australia and Jetstar Airways. The airport, located close to Botany Bay, has three runways and is popularly known as east-west, north-south and the third runway.

Sydney Airport is both the longest continuously operating airport and the oldest international airport in the world. Additionally, as Australia's busiest airport, it hosted 35,630,549 passengers in 2011, and 326,686 aircraft movements were recorded in 2013. According to 2015 data, it is the 38th busiest airport in the world. The current CEO of the airport, which is managed by Sydney Airport Corporation Limited (SACL), is Kerrie Mather. There are currently direct flights to Sydney from 46 domestic and 43 international destinations.

Land Transportation

Access to the airport is provided via the underground rail line Airport Link. The international railway station is located under the international terminal, while the local railway station is located under the car park between the domestic terminals (Terminal 2 and Terminal 3). While the stations are part of the Sydney Rail commuter network, they are operated by the Airport Link consortium and require additional fees to use. Trains arriving at the airport are regular suburban trains. Unlike other airport trains, there is no special treatment for passengers with luggage on these trains, there is no express journey to the airport, and there is a high probability that all seats on the train will be filled with suburban line passengers until they arrive at the airport.

Sydney Buses' route 400 runs between Burwood and Bondi junction railway stations and stops at both international and domestic terminals.

This route connects to the eastern districts and the St George region.

Sydney airport has road connections to all directions. The Southern Cross Drive (M1) motorway is the fastest route to the city centre. The M5 South Western Motorway (including the M5 East Freeway) connects the airport with Sydney's south-western districts. The ring road around the airport consists of Airport Drive, Qantas Drive, General Holmes Drive, M5 East Freeway and Marsh Street. General Holmes Drive has a tunnel under the main south-north runway. Part of the ring road within the airport, Ross Smith Avenue (named after Ross MacPherson Smith) connects the domestic terminal to the control tower, general aviation area, car rental company storage area, long-term car park, heliport, various retail locations and hotels. The airport has several official car parks. Domestic Short Term, Domestic Remote Long Term and International Short/Long Term.

The International Terminal is located next to a wide pedestrian and bicycle path. It connects Mascot and Sydney City to Tempe in the northeast (via the bridge over the Alexandra Canal) and Botany Bay in the southwest. All terminals offer bicycle storage and are easily accessible on foot from the surrounding areas.
