Rogers Pass is 1.71 km above sea level and is located on the continental divide of the US state of Montana. The coldest weather recorded in the United States outside of Alaska occurred on January 20, 1954, with a cold snap of −57 °C in Rogers Pass.

Fort Selkirk is located in the Canadian Yukon, where the Yukon River and the Pelly River meet, previously dominated by trade. In the 1950s this place was abandoned due to extreme cold. It still continues as a settlement, but transportation is limited. There is no road transportation. Most visitors travel either by plane or boat. The coldest month is January and the lowest temperature is -58 °C.

Prospect Creek – Alaska, USA

Prospect Creek is located 290 km north of Fairbanks and 40 km southeast of Bettles, Alaska. The region has the distinction of being a semi-arctric region, meaning that winters last quite long and summers end quickly. Weather conditions are more severe and the population has decreased. In 1924, Russian scientist Sergey Obrichev measured the lowest temperature as −71.2 °C at the Oymyakon meteorological station. The lowest temperature recorded in the world was also experienced here.
